Daddy's Shoulder

My father-in-law, whom I appreciate and love, does drive me crazy sometimes.  But right now, I just feel sorry for him.  Back in January he was out in an ice storm (that's his stubborn side - he had NO BUSINESS being out there!).  He broke his collar bone and shattered his shoulder.  This has not healed and now he is left with a nearly useless right arm.  He occasionally has pain, too.

He still drives, which is frightening.  He lifts his right arm to the steering wheel with his left arm, the puts the left hand on the wheel.  Noah absolutely will not ride with him.

The original doctor, Doctor Bircoll with Resurgeons, was always in too big of a rush.  Daddy was given LOTS of pain meds, but apparently he's addicted to hydrocodine and needed really high doses to make any dent in the pain. A number of times he he wanted to go back to the ER because of pain, but Dr. Bircoll said he would hurt "like hell" and there was nothing he could do about it beyond the pain medication.

As Daddy progressed, Dr Bircoll said his shoulder didn't heal properly and his oppionion was to leave it alone and not do surgery.  Daddy didn't like that so went to a new doctor, Doctor Branch.  He was very knowledgeable and said that a reverse shoulder replacement was what he needed.  We also learned that he was the mentor of Dr. Bircoll.  Dr. Branch was good, but Daddy still wanted another opinion.

We then ended up at Dr. Jarrett with Emory - WOW!  We were all terrible impressed with this guy!  He stayed in the room with us for at least 30 minutes.  Daddy finally said we had a enough of his time and he had answered all our quesiton.

To make this a little shorter, Daddy is scheduled for reverse shoulder replacement surgery on Oct. 20.  Lord help us all.
