Daddy's memory

Daddy lost his cell phone.  He came home from Wal-Mart and it was missing.  He returned to the stored, but it wasn't turned it.  He then called his phone and someone answered and said this was thier number.  Here is the problem.  He dialed the WRONG number.  So now he thinks his phone was stolen.

He went to Verizon to get a new phone.  They transfered his old number to the new phone, but he THINKS he has a new number.  He sent and email to the kids giving us his "new" number.  It's the old one - and it works.  He then sent an e-mail to the grand kids giving them a different number - it was wrong.  I told him his number works and he sent me his "new" number again and this time put his old number on the email - that number was never his.

I don't know how to make him understand.  There isn't much harm done, but he's going around "changing" his number on everything!!!

How bad does he have to get before intervention is needed?  I'm just not sure.  Greg and Mike both agree that "he's getting old and forgetful", but they don't seem to think about any dangers associated with this.
